"Will you ride with me?"

Jessica was a young woman with Asperger’s Syndrome/High Functioning Autism who passed away December 19, 2007. She was a picture of hope for Autism as she displayed determination in her life, reaching her own goals by attending Florida Community College at Jacksonville, working at a local veterinarian office, and giving constant encouragement to others with disabilities. Jessica was athletic and enjoyed many sports, but it was evident that her greatest passion was cycling. Unknowingly, Jessica named her own ride when she would ask neighbors to “ride with me.” Throughout her life, she was an avid cyclist and would ride for hours every day. In the process, there were many visits made to LakeShore Bicycle & Fitness. According to the owner, Charlie Fetzer, she wore out chains, tires and sprockets faster than most customers.

Saddened by Jessica’ death, Fetzer organized the first Ride with Me for Autism bicycle charity event in Jessica’s memory on May 26, 2008. He also helped to organize the 2nd Annual Ride with Me for Autism bicycle charity event on April 25, 2009. Today, Charlie is very much a part of this ride as he continues helping to plan and organize the event with the Jessica Green Foundation, Inc. Helen Green is very grateful to Charlie Fetzer who created this ride which is now the most significant fundraiser for the Jessica Green Foundation, a not-for-profit organization.

Participation in this ride is extremely helpful in raising awareness of Autism. The funds raised will give help to the families and individuals battling with Autism by providing them with the supports and services they need in order to have a better quality of life, which in turn will help them to become included in all aspects of their communities.

"My bicycle means a lot to me. I feel I am in control when I ride my bicycle
and it helps me work out my frustration and aggravations so I can be a better person."

-Jessica Green
